90 day review of the troy-bilt tb6044 xp

Buyer beware!!! Terrible product and customer service!!!!

Purchased March 17, 2013 and right out of the box after connecting the upper and lower pieces and filling with gas and oil starting it up and following all directions the spool head goes flying completely off across the yard and down the driveway. After contacting lowes the store in which I purchased it I was informed that Icouldn't return it or get a refund because I did not buy the extended warranty on it. Remember the item is about an hour old. After being on hold with MTD/TROYBILT for about 1 1/2 hours just to be disconnected and then called back and was informed that the customer support is gone for the day.

I called them the next day and finally got through. The lady told me to take it to my authorized service center to have it repaired but she couldn't guarantee me that it would be covered under the warranty. 2 days old now. Well after researching my problem on the internet and talking to a few yard workers in the neighborhood a guy with the same exact model said he had the same problem when he first got his.

He should me how to fix it. Worked great for about another 2 months and then the red bump head started shooting off and until this day I cannot get it to stay on. After calling MTD again and filing another report I was informed that i could purchase another spool assembly since they do not sell just a bump head. Now remember it has a 3 year warranty and it has been less than 90 days.

Lowes and MTD a great team. LOL Also after taking it to my local authorized service center I was informed that they do not repair troybilt.

So i went to the 2nd choice approximately 10 miles away. 2-4 week turn around and still maybe charged for the repair.

Monetary Loss: $240.

Location: Augusta, Georgia

Perhaps you should learn how to install a trimmer head properly. It's not difficult at all.

A 6 year old could have done this correctly. Quit blaming the machine for human stupidity.

Got this pos trimmer for the Jumpstart after hurting shoulder. Worked pretty well for a year, then just died.

Looked up TB service on their website. Several places either didn't service TB or didn't work on trimmers. Finally took it to *** in the wall repair shop (from TB website ) who said call end of next week. Called, carburetor back ordered, be 10 days.

Called after 12days to be told it has low compression. Needs piston / rings.

How is this possible? Machine has at most 15 hrs.

If you didn't let it sit through the off season with Ethanol fuel in the carb this would not happen. A little common sense goes a long way.

mine bent the cam shaft. My mechanic says if the piece that went on the blade to the shaft was made right this would never had happened.

I was mowing and the blade went flying almost killing the dog. Called the company....got a TECH who couldn't give me a straight answer if he worked on mowers or is just reading from the book. HE WAS READING FROM A BOOK!!!!! the bottom line take it to a service center.

He wasn't sure if they would charge me to look at it he wasn't sure if it was covered HE WASNT SURE GTREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE......NOT SURE IF IM GONNA SUE YOU EITHER!!!!!!

My TB6044XP is running great so far. No issues.

Used for personal use monthly. It starts and runs best with can (no ethanol) gasoline I've noticed.......you can seriously notice the difference.

I purchased the same machine, took it back 3 days later and was offered a refund, went to the back and found the same machine with a now upgraded engine WOW it works good for now but who knows.

I had no problem with Lowes refunding my money, you should have gone to another store for the return. I did not purchase the extended warranty either.

The fact that Troy Bilt is now part of MTD should tell you something. Troy Bilt no longer makes reliable machines of any kind. Good luck.
